Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) was established in 1932 in the United States. It accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. Today ABET standards continue to play fundamental role and have become the basis of quality for STEM disciplines all over the world. More than 2,200 experts from industry, higher education and government are working on the evaluation. ABET is constantly improving its assessment criteria, ensuring their consistency with what is happening in the economy and the labour market. It is involved in many international activities supporting the process of accreditation of engineering education. To date, it has accredited  4,361 programs at 850 colleges and universities in 41 countries around the world, including Europe. Most of the accreditation processes of current engineering programs around the world are based at least in part on ABET guidelines. ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost significance.

Lodz University of Technology applied for accreditation for two programmes conducted in English: Computer Science, and Information Technology. Accreditation visit took place in November 2021. The university's efforts were successful, in August 2022 both programmes were accredited by Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.
