In the thematic rankings, the university was classified in 21 categories. In three of them, it achieved 1st place in Poland: Food Science (155th place worldwide, up 29 positions), Agricultural and Biological Sciences (291st place worldwide, up 68 positions) and Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics (300th place worldwide, a remarkable jump of 563 positions).
In Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, TUL was placed 3rd in Poland, 562nd worldwide (up 129 positions).
In the latest edition of SIR, a total of 10,827 institutions from various sectors were evaluated, including 5,491 universities. In the global ranking the top positions were taken by Harvard University (USA), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), and Zhejiang University (China). In Poland, the top three places went to Jagiellonian University, University of Warsaw, and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) evaluates institutions from five different sectors based on 20 indicators defined in three areas: research performance (50% weight), innovation outputs (30%), and societal impact measured by their web visibility (20%).
