From March 3rd to 7th, representatives from three European universities: Lodz University of Technology, University of Algarve, and University of Groningen, participated in an emotional intelligence training in picturesque Toulouse, France.

What emotions does the word “microaggression” evoke in you? Probably not pleasant ones. So how can you deal with them? First and foremost, take a deep breath and don’t rush to react. This moment of pause is one way to manage strong emotions that arise in interpersonal interactions. This was precisely what participants learned during the workshops in Toulouse, organized as part of the EQUNI project.

The participants challenged their own beliefs regarding discrimination and various forms of aggression. This happened both in the training room and on the streets of Toulouse, where they filmed real-life scenarios and analyzed inclusive policies of large companies. Additionally, the participants had an opportunity to play the EQUNI board game developed within the project, which is designed to sensitize players to manifestations of discrimination while developing their emotional intelligence. The group found its way well into the competitive atmosphere. However, the most important aspects of the workshops were cooperation and creativity, povided by Nicolas Schaeffer - an experienced trainer from the coaching company SumFuo. As a result, participants returned to their universities equipped with new tools for developing emotional intelligence and concrete action plans to promote equality, diversity, and tolerance within their academic communities.

This training was part of the Erasmus+ project entitled "Implementation of effective practices for the development of students' emotional intelligence with particular emphasis on anti-discrimination activities at European universities", funded by the European Union.
