On October 1, 2017 the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) started its activity. Its main task is to initiate and implement activities supporting international academic exchange and the process of internationalisation of Polish universities and research institutions, disseminate information about the Polish system of higher education and science and disseminate the Polish language abroad.
The offer of the NAWA programs is addressed to researchers, students and PhD candidates, Polish and foreign citizens, as well as universities, scientific institutions of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Polish research institutes.

Information for applicants in the NAWA programmes
In the case of NAWA programmes addressed to individual Polish scientists and doctoral students, applications are usually submitted in the NAWA IT system by persons interested without the intermediation of university. In a few cases, when the requirement of the call is to submit an individual application and documents via the university, please submit them to the Staff Mobility Division of the Interantional Cooperation Centre at least two weeks in advance of the deadline for submitting applications indicated in the call for proposals.
In the case of NAWA calls for proposals where the entity entitled to submit an application is Lodz University of Technology, the person submitting the application on behalf of the university should have/obtain the appropriate power of attorney of the Rector to submit the application, which should be attached in the NAWA IT system. TUL units which submitted such applications are also requested to provide information to the International Educational Projects Division of the International Cooperation Centre (including the title of the application, the name of the call for proposals and contact person). Bekker Programme - medium-term visits abroad for Polish scientists and PhD students
The programme offers individual scholarships for foreign internships held in order to conduct scientific research or obtain materials for scientific work in renowned foreign institutions around the world, for a period of 3 to 24 months for Polish researchers, academic teachers and PgD students. Researchers apply to NAWA individually.

Iwanowska Programme - medium-term visits abroad for Polish doctoral students
The Program offers individual scholarships for foreign internships in order to conduct scientific research in foreign institutions around the world, for a period of 3 to 12 months for Polish doctoral students (PhD candidates). Doctoral students apply to NAWA individually.

The PROM programme - short-term international exchange for doctoral students and researchers
The programme is designed for universities to improve the competences of doctoral students and academic staff from Poland and abroad through international scholarship exchange. It finances costs related to participation in short visits abroad (from 5 to 30 days) related to, among others, participation in scientific conferences, research internships, trainings, taking measurements, etc. Interested candidates apply for participation in the project implemented by the university. Lodz University of Technology is currently implementing the PROM project for the academic year 2019/2020.

Polish Returns - employment of Polish scientists returning from abroad
The programme encourages Polish scientists working at foreign universities to return to Poland and undertake research work at Polish universities together with the Polish team. It finances the remuneration and costs of resettlement of the returning scientist, remuneration of team members, costs of adaptation of the place of work at a Polish university during the project implementation period, i.e. 36-48 months.

The Ulam Programme - medium-term visits of foreign scientists to Polish universities
The programme offers scholarships to stay at Polish universities for recognized or promising foreign scientists with at least a PhD degree, for a period of 6 to 24 months in order to participate in scientific and didactic activities. Researchers apply to NAWA individually.

The Chair Programme (Profesura Gościnna) - employment of world-class foreign scientists in Polish universities
Under this NAWA programme, Polisg universities may employ world-class foreign scientists (for a period of 36-48 months), who will carry out scientific research, strengthen teaching activities and prepare applications for prestigious grants together with local project groups. The program provides also possibility to cover costs of scientific research. First edition of the programme is dedicated to researchers in the field of humanities, social and theological science.

Bilateral exchange of researchers - support for the mobility costs of researchers implementing joint research projects
The announced calls for proposals concern support for mobility of scientists in the implementation of research projects conducted jointly by Polish and foreign universities from selected partner countries (including France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Portugal, China and India). The grant covers the costs of exchange (travel and subsistence). A Polish university submits an application for funding to NAWA and a foreign partner to a competent institution in his country.

The unit responsible for coordinating the process of applying for funding for institutional projects in NAWA calls for proposals is the International Cooperation Centre. Entities and employees interested in participation in the following NAWA calls for proposals are requested to contact the International Educational Projects Division of International Cooperation Centre (CWM): tel. +48 42 638 38 72 (or 73). In most calls of this type, NAWA specifies the maximum number of applications which may be submitted by the university. In such a situation, TUL conducts an initial preselection of applications.
