Manager of Food and Nutrition - student's perspective

Is Manager of Food and Nutrition a field of study for enthusiasts of biology or management?

In my opinion, this is the field of study for those who are interested in human nutrition, but instead of working in a laboratory, they want to develop their entrepreneurship and be active in business. It is primarily a very practical major. Many subjects are carried out in the form of workshops, projects and laboratories, which teaches us to practically apply substantive knowledge. The course is run by two faculties (the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences and the Faculty of Management and Production Engineering), which results in good cooperation in the form of well-chosen classes, shaping competences that will be used in the future by the food manager.

What kinds of jobs are you being prepared for at university?

Jobs in the HoReCa (hospitality industry), which is a fashionable and forward-looking employment prospect. In this industry, we can start our work adventure very early and gain professional experience while still studying. The industry itself, despite problems related to the current global situation, continues to operate and I believe that it will come back stronger after returning to normal. In addition, many of the solutions that have been developed in the current situation can be used effectively in future years, and studying in this field will help us see these solutions and put them into practice.

What is studying for a degree in Manager of Food and Nutrition like?

The studies are designed in such a way that, in the course of their implementation, we can acquire as much knowledge as possible in a practical way, which translates into a higher number of practicals, laboratories and project classes. Some subjects are practical only, but most of them are lectures at the beginning, thanks to which we gain knowledge in a given field, which we later use during workshops. In my opinion, this is a big advantage. I myself prefer to learn in such a practical way, because then the textbook knowledge acquires its proper dimension.

What do you consider the greatest advantage of studying at Lodz University of Technology?

For me, the greatest advantage of studying at Lodz University of Technology is the location of the university. Lodz is a beautiful city that makes investments providing students with a good life in Lodz one of its top priorities. The university itself is situated conveniently, close to the city center and the railway and bus stations. Lodz University of Technology is well-equipped with facilities in both lecture halls and labs to facilitate learning, as well as a wide range of sports facilities, which also make study time more enjoyable. The people I have met while studying are very friendly and sociable, open-minded. This applies to both students and employees of Lodz University of Technology, whom I had the pleasure to meet during my studies.
