The Education programme was created under an intergovernmental agreement on the implementation of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, concluded between Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Poland.

As part of Component II of the Education Programme - Mobility Projects in Higher Education, Lodz University of Technology was eligible to receive the grant of €97 368, where €82 763 was an EEA Grant contribution and €14 605 was aquired through domestic funding. ​​​​

The EEA Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA Grants amount to €1.55 billion. The priorities for this period are:

1. Innovation, Research, Education and Competitiveness
2. Social Inclusion, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction
3. Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy
4. Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights
5. Justice and Home Affairs

There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics.

As part of Component II EEA, Lodz University of Technology received funding from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in the amount of: 95 020 EUR, part of which 14 253 EUR has been co-funded by Poland.

The programme was implemented from July 1, 2020 till September 30, 2022.

In the academic year 2021-2022 students were recruited to the project under the EEA Grants in accordance with the schedule for the recruitment of the Erasmus+ programme. 1 student from TUL did the traineeship in Iceland and two students from Norway did traineeships at TUL within the programme.

In the academic year 2022-2023 there were 2 places available for the traineeships (one in Norway and 1 in Iceland). Students of the Lodz University of Technology could benefit from EEA grants, when applying for a traineeship at one of the following universities:


The monthly scholarship (student subsistence) within Education Programme was 1 200 EUR. Additionally, students received a scholarship to cover the cost of your travel: 275 EUR (to Norway), or 360 EUR (Iceland).  

Students with disabilities, could also apply for the additional funds. The scholarship was paid in PLN at the EUR exchange rate = 4,5565 PLN.

The programme was implemented from April 1, 2022 till September 30, 2023.

Within the framework of the programme, in the academic year 2022/2023, 2 students from the University of Agder carried on a placement at the University of Agder, Norway and 1 student from University of Agder came to the Lodz University of Technology.
