The difficult situation in Europe regarding COVID-19 and the still high number of people in hospitals in Poland mean that it is necessary to extend the applicable restrictions related to the pandemic until January 31. The existing security rules regarding the closure or restriction of, for example, certain sectors of the economy, will apply at least until the end of the month.

The most important restrictions related to COVID-19

  • It is mandatory to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters between pedestrians.
  • It is necessary to cover the mouth and nose in public places, e.g. on the street, on the bus, in the clinic or in the church.
  • The activity of shopping malls is limited - for example, only pharmacies or grocery stores remain open there.
  • There is a ban on the operation of stationary restaurants - only delivery and take-out service is possible.
  • Hospitality is limited (with exceptions).
  • The ski slopes are closed.
  • The activities of cultural institutions are suspended, including theaters, cinemas and museums.
  • It is forbidden to operate night clubs, discos and other places open to dancing.
  • The activities of swimming pools, aqua parks, gyms, clubs and fitness centers are suspended (with exceptions).
  • A limited number of people can travel by public transport.
  • There is a limit of people in churches - max. 1 person per 15 m2, keeping the distance not less than 1.5 m.
  • A maximum of 5 people can take part in a public assembly.
  • There are hours for seniors (from Monday to Friday, 10:00 - 12:00).
  • It is forbidden to organize weddings, communions, consoles and other celebrations and occasional parties.
  • Trade fairs, exhibitions, congresses and conferences may only be held on-line.
  • Border crossing and international traffic restrictions apply.

Return of grades 1-3 to schools

There are sanitary guidelines and a schedule for conducting screening tests for SARS-Cov-2 for teachers in grades 1-3 of primary schools. The Ministry of Science and Education held a series of talks with the superintendents of education, the Advisory Board for safety in education, the Chief Sanitary Inspector and the Ministry of Health.

The return of students of grades 1-3 to schools will take place on January 18 under strict sanitary regime. The guidelines are largely based on the records already known from September 2020. Teachers can perform a PCR test to detect coronavirus in sanitary inspection units and at drive thru points. Lists of points and times of sampling from teachers and school staff will be published on the websites of Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Stations and County Sanitary and Epidemiological Stations.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is ongoing

We have an effective weapon in the fight against the virus - the vaccine. The difficult time of the pandemic will end with each new person vaccinated. Until a large part of the population is vaccinated against the coronavirus, we will still have to follow basic safety rules.

Currently, our country is in the top 10 in terms of the number of vaccinations performed in the European Union. In Poland, over 200,000 have already been vaccinated. people.

The Chancellery of the Prime Minister has launched the website gov.pl/szczepimysie, where comprehensive and verified information on the vaccine is available. For citizens, there is also a free, 24-hour helpline of the National COVID-19 Immunization Program, available at 989.

New Years Eve on new rules

New Year's Eve is a special day of the year. Each of us wants to spend it with friends and family. In the current situation however, all types of events and gatherings create extremely dangerous conditions for further transmission of the coronavirus. Consequently, they are very dangerous for us and our loved ones. Therefore, stay at home and do not organize parties and social meetings outside of the household. Like many other European countries, Poland also introduces restrictions on this day. From December 31, 2020 to January 1, 2021, from 7 pm to 6 am, movement is prohibited throughout the country. The exception will be, among others, necessary official activities and other activities indicated in the regulation.

New security rules - from December 28 to January 17

The liability phase is extended and additional restrictions are introduced. All this to stop COVID-19 transmission and get back to normal as soon as possible. The new safety rules will apply from December 28, 2020 to January 17, 2021, i.e. until the end of the school break. What will change?

  • Another limitation in the functioning of shopping malls - remain open: grocery stores, shops with books and newspapers, drugstores, pharmacies, hairdressing and beauty salons, as well as free-standing large-area furniture stores
  • Limiting the functioning of hotels - available to uniformed services, medics, patients of specialized hospitals, COS centers. Staff hotels are also an exception.
  • Closed ski slopes
  • Sports infrastructure available only as part of professional sports
  • 10-day quarantine for people coming to Poland with organized transport

The existing rules and restrictions are extended:

  • It is forbidden to move under the age of 16 without the care of a parent or legal guardian from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm (day camps are an exception)
  • Restrictions on public transport:

- 50% of the number of seats, or

- 30% of all seating and standing positions, while at least 50% of the seats are vacant in the vehicle.

  • Restrictions in places of religious worship - max. 1 person / 15m2
  • Participation in meetings - max. 5 people
  • Ban on weddings, communions and parties
  • Closed gyms, fitness clubs and aquaparks
  • Restriction in shops - max. 1 person / 15m2
  • Hours for seniors - from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12 pm
  • Closed restaurants. Meals only to take away or delivery
  • Nurseries and kindergartens remain unchanged
  • Hairdressing and beauty salons operate in a sanitary regime

Other restrictions that were in force are extended.

Healthy and safe Christmas

There is Christmas before us, which has always been a time of meetings with family and friends. This year, however, will differ from those from previous years. The coming days are a test of responsibility for all. Let's make waiting for COVID-19 vaccinations safe for us and our loved ones. Follow the applicable restrictions - spend the holidays with your household members, do not organize large meetings. Please note that there is a limit to the number of guests you can invite - this is a maximum of 5 guests in total, except for permanent residents.

Valeriia Balatska: I chose Poland because nowadays Poland is a country which evolves at the extreme rate, and I choose this university based on the excellent reviews I heard. Also TUL offers various interesting programs, and the mobility semester

Introduce yourself and tell us about your program of study.

My name is Valeriia Balatska. I'm a first year student and I am from Ukraine. I'm studying Information Technology. In our course, we are focusing on the programming. Also we are studying about the computer architecture, algorithms and data structures. There is quite a lot of Math and Physics, so overall it's a really good course.

What is the most interesting for you?

For me personally, the most engaging subject is programming itself, because I enjoy the process of coding and find great satisfaction in seeing the results.

Why did you choose Poland and Lodz University of Technology?

I chose Poland because nowadays Poland is a country which evolves at the extreme rate, and I choose this university based on the excellent reviews I heard. Also TUL offers various interesting programs, and the mobility semester particularly caught my interest as I was exploring what university offers. I just love how engaging the student life here is -  a lot of different interesting activities.

Have you already chosen the destination of your mobility?

I'm not sure yet, but probably Germany or maybe Switzerland somewhere there.

What have you gained thanks to your studies?

It has been not a long period of time, but I can already say that I feel like I'm more flexible. The first week of university has been dynamic, we had various team-building projects that allowed me to interact with many new people, making the start of university life smoother. Also, I feel that my professional skills are growing even though it's been only two months of studies. I am excited about the knowledge I've gained so far.

And do you enjoy your time here?

Yes, absolutely. This is a really lively city with a soul.

The adventure of studying biotechnology is one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
I can discover the biological processes used on an industrial scale.

-student of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences
Piotr Krzyżanowski

First of all: biotechnology

What do we associate the term Biotechnology with? Certainly with the dynamic development of such fields as genetic engineering, medicine, environmental protection, agriculture or computer science... Are you thinking about starting studies that are related to science? Do you want to explore and discover biological processes that are used on an industrial scale and take up active work in a laboratory under the guidance of the best-qualified people with many years of experience?

My first association - Lodz University of Technology! Taking up studies at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences was so far one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

You're probably wondering: Am I sure I can manage? Is it surely the right choice? I had the same concerns as you. I was wondering if the career path I want to take is definitely the right one, taking into account that in high school I was in a class with a strictly humanistic profile. The beginnings are always difficult, but it is common knowledge that hard work always brings fruitful results, so it is worth taking a risk!

My first day in college

Being on my first day at university I felt slightly lost and unsure. I think that all the people sitting in the same room as me that day had similar feelings. However, being in our faculty more and more, I liked it more and more. If I were to go back in my memory to all the subjects that were in the program, then at this point I can say that everything I learned had some kind of explanation and was used in later years in subsequent courses. It was hard with some subjects... really hard... but we all managed to do it. The lecturers at our university have an individual and respectful approach to each student and are always there to help when we have a problem. If there anything you don't understand – talk to the lecturer during office hours! They will be happy to explain it to you again.

What is best for me?

Surely it is knowledge. Not only content-related but also practical. Hundreds of hours spent in the laboratory, which have made me precise, methodical, and prepared me for later work in my profession, these are the most valuable things you can get by studying biotechnology. Studying biotechnology is a well-planned and balanced curriculum, discussing and implementing state-of-the-art technologies during classes, and a wide range of optional classes. In addition, you can choose an interesting specialization that will allow you to decide on your future job profile.

What after graduation?

There are so many possibilities that it would be difficult to replace them, so if you feel that you will prove yourself as a Biotechnologist, do not hesitate and submit an application!

P.S. We have delicious food in the faculty canteen :)

A showcase of the field of study:

Studying biotechnology is one of the best decisions I have ever made. This course is a well-planned and balanced curriculum, discussing and implementing the latest technologies during classes, and a wide range of additional classes. Hundreds of hours spent in the laboratory, which have made me precise, methodical, and prepared me for my future career, are the most valuable things you can get by studying biotechnology. You can also choose an interesting specialization that will allow you to decide on the profile of your future work. If you feel that you will prove yourself in the role of a biotechnologist, do not hesitate and submit an application to the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences.

As part of the work on combating CVID-19, the Government of the Republic of Poland prepared three draft regulations on restrictions, orders and bans in connection with the occurrence of the epidemic. These are three variants of restrictions that will be applied depending on the development of the situation. They concern:

Responsibility stage - from November 28 to December 27

Shops in shopping malls with a sanitary regime

The persistently high number of COVID-19 cases does not allow for far-reaching lifting of restrictions and limitations. From November 28, however, the possibility of shops and services in shopping centers and retail parks will be restored under strict sanitary regime.

There will be a limit of people in shops and shopping malls - a maximum of 1 person. on 15 m2. Remember that in public spaces you have to cover your nose and mouth. When entering the store, disinfect your hands or use protective gloves during all shopping.

Winter holidays from 4 to 17 January
The study break across the country will last from January 4 to January 17, 2021 and will replace the previous winter holidays. However, this year's holiday will be different from the others. Children and youth will stay at home due to the prohibition of organizing trips for winter holidays.
