The project submitted by TUL International Cooperation Centre, #edu4sdgs - Building a Comprehensive Educational Ecosystem for SDGs, is among the Top10 applications that received funding under ACTION 2 Cooperation partnerships in higher education.

The main project objective is to accelerate HE contribution to the SDGs by cultivating social responsibility and shaping agents of change. The cross-sectoral consortium will jointly create an online learning space - SDGs University Knowledge Hub – with educational pathways leading the user towards skills development and obtaining recognition in the form of a digital badge. Partners will also create a board game supporting the understanding of the SDGs by shaping emotional intelligence (EQ). The initiative will be complemented by a roadmap for universities and a series of trainings, summer school and webinars for the target group.

The partnership will introduce an innovative mechanism of micro-credentials to enhance the quality, transparency, accessibility and flexibility of the learning offering related to the SDGs. The project aspires to inspire individuals – students, life-long learners as well as education and training providers, teacher and coaches - to take an active role in their communities and become the real agents of change in contributing to the SDGs.

On behalf of TUL, the work of the consortium is coordinated by the Director of the ICC - dr inż. Dorota Piotrowska, university professor. Partners in the project are Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), Welfare and Development Association (Spain), ACEEU (Germany), Riga Technical University (Latvia), Team Coaching (Poland). The project budget is 400,000 euro. It starts this autumn.

The results of the THE Impact Rankings have been published. Despite the increase in the number of HEIs competing in the ranking from 1410 last year to 1591 in its current edition, TUL has managed to maintain its position from a year ago.

The places on the podium have been taken by Western Sydney University (Australia, 1st place in the 2022 edition), University of Manchester (UK, up from 9th place) and Queen's University (Canada, up from 7th place). The UK is the most-represented country in the top 100 with 26 institutions, followed by Australia with 16 and Canada with 15.

The ranking includes 24 Polish universities (15 in the previous edition), of which one has not been classified in the overall ranking. The University of Gdańsk, Jagiellonian University and Krakow University of Economics have been ranked in the 401-600 range, while Lodz University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, Warsaw University, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences and WSB Academy – between 601 and 800. Four Polish universities have been ranked in the 801 – 1000 range, and another eleven - in the 1001+ position.

Lodz University of Technology has performed very well in SDG 8. Decent work and economic growth and SDG 17. Partnership for the goals. In SDG 8 it has been ranked 1st in the country (ex aequo with the Krakow University of Economics and the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences) and in the global TOP 200. TUL has also taken part in SDG 3. Good health and well-being, SDG 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure and SDG 10. Reduced inequalities.

THE Impact Ranking takes into account the university's activities toward the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that form the basis of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for a Sustainable Development. Within these 17 goals, the Agenda sets 169 tasks to be achieved worldwide by 2030. The are focused on five areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet (so-called 5Ps): people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership.
