Newly enrolled foreign students have arrived at the university to begin their first- and second- studies in Polish and English, both at the faculties and at the International Faculty of Engineering of Lodz University of Technology.

The strategy of International Cooperation Centre has once again ensured an increase in the internationalization of the university in the context of foreign students enrollment, and has made it possible to attract 689 foreign applicants from 63 countries, thus diversifying the nationalities of the students admitted to the university.

Out of those who met the admission criteria, a record number of almost 200 young people submitted their documents and actually sat in the university's lecture halls and began their education on October 1. We admitted almost 70% more foreign students than in the previous year. If it weren't for the complex visa situation, which affected foreign recruitment at all domestic universities, we would have had more foreign students at TUL as more than 80 additional foreign candidates, accepted for studies in the admission process, declared that they dream of beginning their studies at our university.

The new foreign students at TUL represent countries in Asia (including South Korea, India and Kazakhstan), Africa (including Morocco, Egypt and Zimbabwe) and even South America (Colombia and Brazil). There is also growing interest in studying at Lodz University of Technology among candidates with citizenship of European countries. This year students from Italy, Sweden, Slovakia or Georgia were also accepted.

On September 27, they were all invited to the International Cooperation Centre for an onboarding meeting and integration. The newly admitted students received a large portion of useful information that will help them adapt to their new cultural context and academic life. They also played games, listed to music, took part in fun activities and were able to meet in person with their assigned mentors - upper-year foreign students who will support them during their first year of study.

Now it's all in their hands! We wish the all the best and fun time of studying at Lodz University of Technology.

On September 25-27th, the partners of the Erasmus+ #edu4sdgs project gathered in Barcelona to review the activities completed so far, plan the work for the upcoming months, and take part in two training sessions.

On the first day, they discussed the micro-credentials to be awarded through the 10 educational pathways developed as part of the project. The group also reviewed preliminary survey results, outlined next steps for creating an online learning space (the SDGs University Knowledge Hub), and addressed plans for organizing a summer school in Riga. Additionally, participants were introduced to an initial concept for a city game, aimed at developing emotional intelligence in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the following days, two training sessions were held for the project team. The first one focused on emotional intelligence, with the goal of enhancing participants' self-awareness, empathy, and social skills, while also exploring the link between emotional intelligence and the SDGs. The second session emphasized the collaboration between universities and NGOs to advance the SDGs. Participants were presented with examples of best practices in this area and discussed effective strategies to promote cooperation between higher education institutions and the third sector.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all #edu4sdgs partners – Lodz University of Technology (coordinator), Riga Technical University (Latvia), Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (Germany), Team Coaching (Poland), Welfare and Development Association (Spain) i Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain).

The #edu4sdgs project is implemented under Erasmus+ Action 2 Cooperation Partnerships.

The proposal of the International Cooperation Centre in the PROM programme - short-term academic exchange received funding from the National Agency for Academic Exchange in the amount of more than PLN 1.7 million.

The funds will allow the implementation of mobilities of doctoral students and academic staff to partner institutions around the world, as well as the arrival of researchers in Lodz.

This is the third edition of the PROM program implemented at our university. So far, 144 participants have benefited from the program. The projects have contributed to increasing the international mobility of doctoral students at the university, improving the quality and internationalization of doctoral education, and strengthening cooperation with foreign partners. The incoming and outgoing mobilities were mainly aimed at active participation in conferences, conducting measurements and collecting dissertation materials, which allowed the participants to develop their skills and gain experience in international scientific cooperation. The scholarship holders’ joint work with foreign experts resulted in several high-scoring publications and improved the university's position in the evaluation of scientific units.

Participants of the program from TUL have conducted research at such prestigious academic centers as University of Padua and University of Oxford. They also participated in numerous scientific conferences in the United States, Japan and New Zealand. In turn, representatives of foreign partner universities, including those from Argentina, Chile and India, as well as from EU countries and our eastern neighbors, visited the walls of our university.

The new project will provide scholarship support for 100 participants - 85 doctoral students and 15 academic teachers. 60 outgoing and 40 incoming mobilities are planned.

The program will be implemented from 1.10.2024 to 30.09.2025. The project's regulations will be drafted and the recruitment of participants will be carried out soon. Mobilities will be implemented from January 2025.

Detailed information will be published on the ICC website.

On July 9-13, in picturesque Faro, Portugal, a unique event organized as part of the EQUNI project took place.

Students, academic teachers and administrative staff from Lodz University of Technology, University of Groningen and University of Algarve participated together in a summer school and training aimed at developing emotional intelligence and combating discrimination in academic environments.

EQ Summer School and EQ Leadership Academy were two intensive, week-long programs that combined lectures, workshops and interactive discussion sessions. Participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of emotional intelligence, understand its importance in everyday academic life and develop ideas for promoting equality, tolerance and respect for diversity at universities. Training sessions were also organized during which the EQUNI board game developed as part of the project was tested. The classes were conducted by renowned university experts and representatives of the Team Coaching and SumFuo coaching companies.

The program was complemented by field activities. Participants got to know the beautiful surroundings of the Algarve and had the opportunity to enjoy beautiful beaches, high cliffs and hot sun ?️⛱️?.

Another meeting of the project team was also held on site. The partners summarized the activities carried out so far and discussed plans for the future.

The events were not only an opportunity to learn, but also to establish international contacts and build cooperation networks at both the individual and institutional levels. Participants returned to their home countries with new skills that will enable them to better manage emotions, collaborate more effectively in diverse teams, and promote equality and inclusion in their institutions.

We invite you to follow further events and initiatives organized as part of the EQUNI project, which aims to create a better future for students and university staff.
